Words of Hope: Reckoning
Hope seems in short measure when we see the violence happening in America. People with masks shooting civilians and dragging children away from parents.
Never in my lifetime would I believe this could happen.
Here we are with a country divided and a decisional choice at hand. What do I choose? What do you choose?
Consider this statement I found:
“There is nothing Christlike about supporting policies that violate the dignity of human beings. When Christians remain silent, or worse, defend violence and dehumanization, we betray the gospel. We strip people of the humanity Christ came to restore in them and in us, and we strip the cross of its meaning: that God became flesh-and-bone among the marginalized, the fearful, the hunted, and the wounded.”
I reflect on the gospel message Jesus preached. It was not personal or national power, privilege, or position. He came in shame, in suffering, in poverty. He lived for a while as a refugee with his parents.
If a person pursues a “gospel” by praying to God for position and wealth or to kill others who do not believe the same, this will bring wrath. This message has no place in a follower of Christ.
Hope springs from truth, from right living before the Holy God who knows our hidden motives, unconscious bias, and inner machinations.
Some may argue this current news is propaganda or misinformation, or there are always two sides. This is a very damning belief that if wrong will be held accountable to the Most High. Are we on the side of the oppressed or the oppressor?
Lord have mercy.
“Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” – I John 4:20
