Words of Hope: Celebrating People
I found a note from my dad. Dad wrote amazing words of encouragement. He celebrated people and made me feel like I could run through a brick wall if I had to. Dad healed me and many people through his words. People were changed by his encouragement and love for them. Just him throwing his hands wide in the air and yelling, “You are a miracle,” is so unusual. Dad loved people in uncommon ways and with tremendous exuberance. When someone loves you with joy and enthusiasm, especially a father, there is a feeling of being wanted, needed, valued, and important to the world. This is how I picture Father God loving us. If you are a father, try this out. Try celebrating the life of your son or daughter.
I have been practicing the habit of enthusiastically celebrating people. When one of our new interns walks into the office, I throw up my hands in joy and say their name with love and gratitude. I spend time listening to what they feel God is doing in their lives. I can see their surprise but also their appreciation. This is what love does. Love welcomes, delights, encourages, brings hope, and overflowing joy. Who is someone you can celebrate “Fred Crowell” style today?
The Lord your God wins victory after victory and is always with you. He celebrates and sings because of you, and he will refresh your life with his love. – Zephaniah 3:17
