Words of Hope: Best Thought
One of Dad’s favorite hymns came on when I was listening to my Pray As You Go app. The words say, “Thou my best thought by day or by night.” I can’t believe how that tiny line summarizes the way forward, a quick mind change from worry to peace, from complaint to gratitude, from bitterness to release. I love how instantaneous it is. This is the immediate revival, the turning from the cares of the world toward the worship of God.
It comes from the realignment of what I consider best. If best is more money, sunny weather, “comfy cozy” circumstances, glorious achievements, being remarkable, powerful, or adulated, then thoughts of God will not satisfy because I have made gods of these other things.
When God is truly God in my life, then my “best” thought is of Him and instantly there is healing and joy. I can have no higher thoughts than this. Everything else pales in comparison. The hymn continues “Thou and Thou only first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my treasure Thou art.”
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2
