MOTHER’S DAY – HONOR WOMEN

No other person deserves honor, appreciation and high esteem as does a mother. She continually gives, cares, sacrifices with little thought of anything in return. Why? Because she loves her children and many others! History proves women have been a powerful force in shaping our world.

Florists absolutely adore Mother’s Day. It is the best day of the year for restaurants. Most holidays demand money. For this reason, I confess there is aversion in my spirit to gift-giving when it is almost required one day a year. However, daily we can show love and appreciation.

Personally, the closest women in my life are my mother, wife, and daughter. Kathleen Mitchell Crowell, my mother, is my foundation for the respect I hold for women. Nothing hindered her caring spirit even though there were no dinners out, no flowers, no new coat for herself. Susie King Crowell, my wife, showed me the way to Jesus Christ and is a remarkable mother and “Lala” to our six grandchildren. Jennifer Crowell Ferch, my only daughter, lives out my special names for her: Glory and Joan of Arc.

Business-wise, NBC Camps has thrived because of women’s influence. Erlene Mennear, from Sundre Alberta, was the founder of NBC Camps in Canada. Thousands of youth have experienced new life in Christ because of this amazing woman. In Alaska, there is Charlene Lopez in Dillingham, Darlene Ulak in Scammon Bay, Renee Green in Hooper Bay, Melody Leask in Metlakatla, Ann Tremarello in Fairbanks, Kay Tauriainen in Soldotna, Princella Jones in Eagle River.

Biblically, we know of many noble women. Pharaoh’s daughter saved Moses. Queen Esther saved a nation. Mary (a young female) was chosen to birth God’s only Son and was remembered by Jesus while on the cross. Mary Magdalene, having been healed of seven evil spirits following living in the dregs of society, was the first person to see the risen Christ after going to the empty tomb. Many women helped the Apostle Paul.

Mother’s Day is an international holiday to honor all those who are special women in our lives. With God’s gift of a woman at creation, we thrive and have the potential to live life in living color!
