MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS OF THE HUMAN CONDITION
No one would expect a university physical education major to attempt to analyze the human condition mathematically! Well, here we go! At least the analysis will be crystal clear simple, and hopefully accurate.
In the early 20th century, the French-Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto originated the Pareto Principle, also called the 80/20 Rule or Law of the Vital Few. This is because he saw 80% of the effects were the result of 20% of the causes. In other words, 80% of the results come from 20% of activities.
It is my firm opinion that basketball coaching is as scientific as oncology, rocket engineering, or being a parent. Basketball coaching is also as mathematical as accounting, engineering, or medicine. Vital to the game preparation and management are math, geometry, and statistics. Knowing and understanding the human condition is essential for the efficient, winning coach. If a coach wins without proper treatment of his athletes, in my opinion, he is lacking in cognizance of the human condition.
CROWELL’S MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS
(related to businesses and camps)
- 20% of a group will do 80% of the work, especially seen in sales.
- 20% of customers will cause 80% of an owner’s discomfort, although 80% will be happy.
- 20% of the athletes at our NBC basketball camps gain our attention, either 10% for their exceptional eagerness to learn or the 10% for their indifference (last in line, sit in the back row). The remaining 80% are in the middle.
Great leadership inspires the top 10%, wins as many of the lower 10% to the top 10%, and recruits the 80% to expand and grow in their human condition.
CROWELL’S LIFE EXPERIENCE REALITY
- 20% of family members do 80% of the housework at home.
- 20% of an office’s staff are the best producers, doing 80% of the tasks.
- 10% of sales personnel generate as much as 90% of a company’s sales.
- 10% of the world population controls 90% of the world’s wealth, known as the upper class.
- 10-20% of leaders try to rule a country, expecting the remaining 80-90% to follow (whether the leadership is strong or not).
HOW TO MAKE CROWELL’S MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS WORK FOR YOU
- Mathematically inventory your life arenas: Home, career, spirit, citizenship, finances.
- Write an improvement plan for each of these areas.
- Seek a mentor who personally lives in the top 10-20% of these arenas; arrange maximization meetings every two weeks.
You will show beyond a doubt you are a great life mathematician!
