Words of Hope: Missional Gifts
My husband Shann and I are part of a beautiful community of believers who participate in an organization called Goldenwood. This program is designed to realign work with love and deepest calling.
The first question they ask us to contemplate is, “What are your gifts?”
My dad was amazing at helping others identify their gifting. When he spoke into this space, he almost always began with the word “Wow!”
“You are so artistic and see the world so uniquely.”
“You make people feel so welcome.”
“You sing with such power – the audience listens transfixed.”
The “wow” was an announcement, a revelation, and a pause.
Gifts are like that. They cause us often to exclaim, “Wow!” How thoughtful, generous, or unexpected.
This is the beauty of discovering our unique gifting. We each are given gifts, ways to engage and work in the world God made. We are to be His eyes, voice, face, hands, and body in service for others. Makers, teachers, creators, problem solvers, discoverers.
What are your gifts? Take time to listen and uncover the unique ways God has prepared you to serve and love. Find a beloved, wise person to be a witness of the “wow” God has given you to serve the world.
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.” – Romans 12:7-8
