THE FINGER OF GOD, Part 1

Today’s culture and government seem to have created a paradoxical polarization. They seem to have created a difficult dilemma for answers. Discussing two different viewpoints often ends up in name calling and character assassination.

The Bible saw a polarization many years ago.  John 10:10 gives Jesus’ contrast statement: “The thief’s purpose is to kill, steal and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” This is life as God has it.

Unfortunately, the thief acts as a serpent. He is deceptive, relying on lies and disguising. Without our awareness, he can hit, sting, often camouflage. To do this, he becomes a great promoter of falsehood of every kind, calling evil good, and good evil, even promising freedom in sin. For six thousand years he has been practicing this art of delusion. Under a show of truth, it is actually a falsehood. Under a pretense of good, it is actually idolatry. Under a masquerade as an angel of light, it is actually a counterfeit. All cunning devices!

Fortunately, God can give insight and discernment. This can be called the finger of God (Luke 11:19-23). It is through God’s Holy Spirit! Discernment is the perception

for guidance between good and evil, meaning between God or the thief acting as a serpent. A good pointer is to see the intent of each. We’ll look at how this works in Part 2!
