FRIDAYS WITH FRED: TWO MOST IMPORTANT HOW’S

I am convinced the two most important HOW’S in the world are: 1) HOW to be born again, and 2) HOW to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

The book I wrote 40 years ago, entitled Meet My Head Coach, in ten chapters gives a very logical, concise explanation of How to be born again and How to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit. The born-again experience is not relying on behavioral modification with self-determination and self-will. Rather, being born again is becoming a new person with God’s new supernatural Power living inside our beings. God doesn’t count our sins against us, but instead credits God’s righteousness to us. This is the new life St. Paul describes in II Corinthians 5:17. Old dreams, ideas, agendas are replaced with Christ’s dreams, ideas, agendas. This is Christ’s new life in us, and it is based on God’s gift of unconditional love, never changing.

Then St. Paul talks of the necessity for born-again believers to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is essential to experience God’s goodness, His power, His justice through His mercy and grace. The miracle of being born again is that Christ lives in the believer in the form of His Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is like spiritual breathing; it is breathing in God and breathing out negativity. It is a moment-by-moment experience where God is in control of every aspect of our lives.

After he read Meet My Head Coach, I asked my nine-year-old grandson what he learned. He said he learned how to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Then I asked him, “Kingston, how are you filled with the Holy Spirit?” He replied: “You have to turn the eagle (ego) off on your phone (the throne) and put Jesus on the phone (the throne) of your life. Then you are filled with the Holy Spirit.” Being born again and being filled with God’s Holy Spirit are the great miracles of life. Thank you, our Heaven Father, for making this possible.
