Words of Hope: Simple

I liked how Dad spoke to me.

He was a great coach because he could take a task that felt daunting and make it very achievable and simple. When I get overwhelmed by all the pressure and tasks of my job, I come back to Dad’s advice. He would tell me, “Your job is to love people. When you pick up the phone, find ways to show love to that person. When you are working with the team, seek opportunities to encourage, honor, listen, and celebrate each person. When you are in frustration, rejoice. When you are afraid, call upon the Lord.”

I imagine Dad with me on this 4:00 am flight to see my beloved NBC family in Alaska. Dad would tell me to live right here right now, fight to be present and to enjoy the gift of work, and the vehicle it is to love people unconditionally. He would say, “Competent work shows a heart of love. Each moment can be a moment for God to work through you. You don’t have to impact everyone you meet, instead focus on finding that intentional time with one person. One sacred moment is worth the trip.”

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37
