15 MINUTES

“Such a short period of time, yet so difficult to set aside too be still, to be quiet.”

Often I told my dear friend, who is racked with MS pain and needs help with things like transportation and small projects, “If I’m too busy to take time for you, I am too busy.”

15 minutes goes by so quickly. Matter-of-fact, a full day goes by so quickly. Too often at day’s end I think, time flies. Too busy is as common as l’m tired. In reality, both are excuses.

A wise man said, “Most of the world’s problems could be solved if you could sit quietly alone each day for 15 minutes.”

Yet these precious quarters of one hour are so hard to come by. Why? When this could be the most important time of the the day.

Today’s 15 minutes have been special for me.15 turned into 60 minutes. It was well worth it.

I will close with a line from Wendell Berry. His poem, The Peace of Wild Things is precious to me.

I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
